IP network image quality explained...

The quality of the images viewed is paramount in any CCTV application.

There are three main types of MPEG image resolution used by Bosch VCS products.
>> MPEG-4 CIF (S-VHS quality)
>> MPEG-4 4CIF (DVD quality low bandwidth)
>> MPEG-2 (professional DVD quality)

Bosch hardware using MPEG-4 CIF delivers S-VHS video quality images. 6 times the frame rate of MJPEG for the same amount of bandwidth.

MPEG rather than JPEG
Bosch VCS uses best of breed compression rates and MPEG motion video compression rather than still images (JPEG). .

The new x-range of VCS hardware uses advanced technology to provide MPEG-4 4CIF that it is capable of 4 x CIF 25 frames per second. This DVD like quality is equivalent to MPEG-2 but at around half the bandwidth, eg. live video (which is virtually indistinguishable from the best analogue video) would require 5 Mbits/sec in MPEG-2 but only 2.5 Mbits/sec in MPEG-4 4CIF.

Using x-range products now gives users the ultimate in flexibility and choice, either MPEG-4 CIF (S-VHS quality) or MPEG-4 4CIF (DVD quality) to match their application. The dual streaming function provided with all x-range products allows users to have equivalent MPEG-2 DVD like quality on both their CCTV monitors and Internet stream, with minimum use of bandwidth.

Bosch x-range hardware

MPEG-4 4CIF dual stream per channel provides DVD quality (MPEG2 equivalent) - 4 CIF, 25 frames per second - no audio
The x-range are all MPEG-4 dual stream per channel and are capable of 4CIF (4 x CIF 25 frames per second) which means they can be used instead of MPEG-2, giving similar high quality results but at around half the bandwidth of MPEG-2. Providing users with maximum flexibility and choice of picture quality and bandwidth usage. Audio available soon.

Bosch hardware using MPEG-2 delivers the highest quality pictures.

MPEG-2 is described as DVD quality and is equivalent to analogue CCTV pictures. At 50 frames per second with no de-interlace 'zippering' footage is smoother.
